Latest 12Gbps SAS RAID Now Available from Server Case UK

We are pleased to announce that through our partnership with LSI we have the latest 12Gbps SAS RAID and HBA Controllers available to purchase. All of these controllers support 12Gbps SAS and 6Gbps SATA.

There’s a few important things to note about 12Gbps SAS. If you intend to connect the controller direct to a backplane, which most customers do, then you must use a 12Gbps SAS backplane. Currently only Supermicro offer these backplanes. You must also use the newer HD Mini-SAS SFF-8643 connectors – the older style of Mini-SAS SFF-8087 is not compatible with 12Gbps bandwidth. You cannot connect a 12Gbps card to a 6Gbps backplane, and visa-versa, you cannot connect a 12Gbps backplane to a 6Gbps controller – so ensure you get the right card, cable and backplane for your application.

We already sell a range of Supermicro chassis with 12Gbps backplanes – Just get in touch we can help you put together a system with these components.

While the backplane and card is labelled as SAS, the backplane usually will support SATA and SAS – Check with your backplane datasheet first though. Remember, SATA will run at 6Gbps, and SAS will run at up to 12Gbps, but is backwards compatible with 6Gbps SAS Drives, so you could start off with 6Gbps SAS drives, and upgrade to 12Gbps at a later date if required.

LSI MegaRAID SAS 9361-4i
The 9361-4i is the 4 port RAID version for 12Gbps SAS connectivity. This controller has a single HD Mini-SAS connector, ideal for connecting to a 4 port backplane.




LSI MegaRAID SAS 9361-8i
The 9361-8i is the bigger brother of the 4 port model above. This is the 8 port RAID version for 12Gbps SAS connectivity. This controller has 2x HD Mini-SAS connectors, ideal for connecting to an 8 port backplane, or for connecting to external JBOD enclosures.

The 9361-4i is the 4 port RAID version for 12Gbps SAS connectivity. This controller has a single HD Mini-SAS connector, ideal for connecting to a 4 port backplane.




LSI MegaRAID SAS 9341-8i
The 9341-8i is the bigger brother to the 4i, allowing up to 8x internal 12Gbps Mini-SAS drives to be connected – either directly or using a compatible backplane.
