Freecom is an industry pioneer in easy-to-use external storage and one of the leading European storage brands, holding many key distribution and retail partnerships throughout Europe and currently expanding in Asia. Freecom has a twenty-year history in developing and marketing high-quality, innovative storage solutions that meet the needs of consumers, professional users and small businesses.

Established in Berlin, Germany, Freecom is headquartered in the Netherlands, with offices in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and United Kingdom.

In September 2009, Mitsubishi Kagaku Media Co., Ltd. (MKM) announced the acquisition of Freecom B.V. With the acquisition, MKM adds Freecom to the MKM/Verbatim group. The Freecom acquisition represents yet another investment made by the MKM/Verbatim. The acquisition of SmartDisk, made in June 2007, has proved successful in establishing MKM/Verbatim in both the portable and desktop external HDD markets on a global basis. MKM/Verbatim external HDD business has grown more than 600 percent during the past two years.

Technology
Freecom’s R&D is located in Berlin and is strongly business-oriented, driven by the needs of our customers, innovation and focus on quality. In addition we continuously scan the horizon for innovative ideas inside and outside the company in which we can invest. We develop our own PCB’s, firmware and software. Freecom also collaborates with a wide variety of third party technology companies on joint product development.

Freecom has a dominant position in Europe in the external storage market and is building up rapidly a very strong network in Asia. Freecom works with 12.000 active resellers. Products are shipped via extensive distribution networks of distributors, resellers, retailers and e-tailers. Freecom products have a huge online presence. Freecom runs SAP and is directly connected to partners on a real time basis to optimize business flows and electronic trading.

Awards
Freecom received over 200 awards in 2011 by independent test houses, designer institutes and computer magazines. The Mobile Drive Sq is awarded in 2012 with a prestigious iF Product Design Award and this is only the beginning…

Eco
All the materials we use are compliant with RoHS, WEEE and CE/FCC standards. Wherever possible, we select recycled raw materials. Our circuit boards are designed using energy saving components that can be recycled at the end of their product life. We are proud that all Freecom products fall within the official guidelines for radiation (EMI) and electrostatic discharge (ESD). Freecom is a member of ‘Grüne Punkt’ in Germany.
